Lerynne West, the winner of the $343.9 million Powerball lottery, bought her ticket after picking up a slice of pizza and coffee at Casey's General Store. She had just bought her first home and was tired from a long day of unpacking. Her and her sister drove to the store where she purchased lottery tickets along with her energy-boosting snacks.
West mistakenly put the winning ticket on the floor of the car instead of inside her purse. After the winning numbers were announced, West called her sister to check her car. Once the ticket was discovered and matched with the winning numbers, West told her sister to "drive slow" over to her house.
West has decided to take a lump-sum payment of $198.1 million. She and her family have begun the Callum Foundation in honor of her grandson who passed away after a premature birth. The organization will look to help alleviate hunger, poverty and more.
West is lucky to have won the lottery. She's even luckier to have found the ticket after leaving it on the floor of a car. The other half of West's $688 million dollar jackpot has been won in New York but has yet to be claimed. Maybe it's time for New Yorkers to start checking the floor of their cars ... or the subway.
